My name is Lindsay Mattingly
When I was little I wanted to be a veterinarian, and a marine biologist, and a doctor and a dentist. Those all seem different but it boils down to just one thing – caring for the creatures (or humans) God made. As I got older and it was time to make a decision on college I told myself I wasn’t smart enough to do any of those things. I wasn’t good at school and all of those would take extra years outside of a high school diploma. So I shrugged it off. I settled for something different because I thought it would be easier and would make everyone else happy. But then I got to a place in life where I needed a change. After some time of self-reflecting I decided to be brave and take a chance on something that could really spark joy and fulfillment in my life. That’s when I applied at AHOW. Yes I love animals and yes I’ve experienced the bond between a human and their pet and how it’s pulled them out of darkness , but that’s not the real reason why I believe veterinary medicine is my sweet spot. It’s a field that’s forever growing and changing and it challenges me to do the same. Every day I learn something new and my heart is made full by caring for what God placed on this earth first. Plus, human medicine is just gross, so, obviously I’ll take the animals over that.
