Christmas, Hanukah, New Year’s Eve! So many celebrations at this time of year. Isn’t it great to spend time with friends, family, coworkers, and so many others. Even getting some extra time off to spend with our pets, the ones who love us unconditionally.
Well, since this is an animal blog, that will be what we talk about, of course. Keeping your pet safe, happy, and healthy during this time of great celebration.
Do your pets like people? I know my baby does. That said, he still gets overexcited when someone comes to the house. It IS okay for our pets to like people and still have a problem when they come by. Anything from jumping onto their legs or lap, to having a bladder issue, to constant barking. All normal reactions, but, ones that can cause us, the human to be distressed or embarrassed.
When you have people coming and your pet is good with people, let them be introduced, they will probably be less stressed knowing who is in the house. It is okay also to then put them in their crate or another room, whichever place gives them the most comfort. You don’t have to stress your pet or your visitors by feeling obligated to allow your cat or dog run free. It also isn’t a punishment, just time for all to relax.
Bring them back out when your company is leaving. Your friends will often like to say goodbye and your pet will know the visitor is gone. That takes away some of their possible anxiety too.
