Surgery:

Our surgeons perform surgery under sterile conditions in our surgery suite. We offer some of the safest anesthetics and monitoring equipment available to help insure our patients health. During the procedure,we closely observe our patients.

During the procedure, your pet is closely observed. Heart, breathing and blood oxygen monitors aid in alerting us to potential problems before they become serious. Afterwards, our staff continues to monitor patients in our recovery area until they are fully awake.

When our surgery patients are released to their family, our staff is there to address questions you may have and to alert you as to what you may expect from your pet once you return home.

Our dual table surgery suite is equipped with high intensity halogen surgery lights, piped in oxygen supply, heart, blood oxygen and respiratory monitors, as well as a hydraulic lift surgery table.

The room has a positive pressure air flow to help maintain a sterile environment. All personnel in the suite wear surgical caps and gloves when sterile procedures are taking place.

Treatment/Recovery/Intensive Care/Lab:

For animals that are critically ill, there is an ICU ward which is carefully monitored. Here we can provide close observation, intravenous fluids, intravenous pumps, oxygen therapy, supplemental feedings, temperature monitoring and timely medications in as quiet and stress-free environment as possible.

The intensive care/treatment/recovery area has a capacity for 12 patients who need close supervision while recovering from anesthesia, or for medical problems. This area is equipped with intravenous fluid pumps, electrocardiograph equipment, cage floor warmers, supplemental oxygen, high intensity lighting, and respiratory monitors. These are used whenever indicated for our patients.

Radiology  (X-Ray)

The Animal Hospital of Waynesville has in house X-ray capability, with viewers in each exam room for clients to see and discuss their pet's radiographs with the doctors.  Our automatic processor develops the xrays rapidly which speeds the time it takes to both take and evaluate the films.

Isolation Ward:

We use our isolation area to house patients that we know or suspect may have a contagious disease that may put our other patients at risk.

In accordance with the strict standards of the American Animal Hospital Association, a separate exhaust system, separate exam table and equipment, stainless steel cages, special clothing worn when handling contagious patients, and separate handling of trash and laundry are among the elements that help ensure confinement of contagion to this area. We use this isolation area most commonly to handle dogs with parvo virus, distemper, or kennel cough, and cats with upper respiratory tract infections.

Before

Dentistry:

The Animal Hospital of Waynesville knows that dental health care for pets is extremely important.

Unclean teeth lead to chronic pain and bad breath. In addition, gum infection and periodontal disease may result in loss of teeth and very serious life-threatening infections of the heart, liver and kidneys.

We provide a dental health program that includes ultrasonic scaling, antiseptic flushing, polishing, antibiotic gum implants, and extractions if needed.

Home dental care is as important in our pets as it is in ourselves — and it is easier than you may think. Our staff can design a home dental health care program designed to keep your pet's teeth in optimum health.
