Do not leave your cat’s food out for them to nibble on all day. You need to measure out the amount of food your cat needs and only feed that amount per day. Portion control is key!
Treats have calories (often lots of them) so make sure to take in the caloric content of the treats with your cat’s total calorie intake.
Get a beginning weight so you know where you are starting and then weigh every few weeks to a month to see the progress. This way you can make adjustments as needed. If you don’t know where you are starting, you don’t know where you need to go and if you are making progress.
You should exercise your cat several times a day. This can be accomplished several ways: walking, playing fetch, and playing with toys. If your cat is exercise intolerant, consult with your veterinarian first to determine the proper exercise needed.
